  1. The O'Doherty are the travelling folks that visit the Co. Cavan most. Their native Co. is Donegal. They come in the summer and stay at Kilacar and Arden. The people like to see them coming because they make some good cans for milking. More of them sell holy pictures strainers, lace, table cloth, oil cloth and many other things. The men buy old horses when they get them cheap. The old women which are not able to work sit along the side of the road smoking clay pipes and singing. There are more people from Cavan who beg. Francie Dolan gathers horse hair. Paddy MaCabe who gathers rags. Paddy Cassidy who used to bring a bag for potatoes he often went in to the Chaple to pray and this day he left his bag out side one of the good boys cut the bottom out of the bag and when he came out he threw the bag up on his back and all the potatoes went around the street and the cursing was
