- The girls made dolls out of turnips
They cut holes for eyes and put pebbles in. They cut a mouth and shaped a nose. They made the body of straw or rags and put on the turnip for a head.
Sometimes they made rag dolls with buttons for eyes and a bit of red material for a mouth
Boys made whistles cut of chestnuts. A hole made large enough to put a pebble in was made. All the white part was taken out and put on a pebble to make the whistle louder.
Cages were made from rods to catch birds. Four rods were tied together to form a square other rods were tied to the square and others were plaited in and out.
Tops were made from spools. The rim was cut off one end of the spool and the end was pointed.
