  1. Thomas Mcgoldrick (already referred to) composed a poem to commemorate an incident which took place in the parish of Kinawley in 1868. A rumour went out that the orangemen were out to attack the newly erected church in the village of Swanlinbar.
    The men came from the surrounding districts came in hundreds to help the men of the parish to defend it. In
    ''The Tossing of the Church in Swanlinbar'' the poet refers to this help

    My country's praises I mean to sing
