- This is a cromlech. It is said that a giant and his wife are buried here in the townland of Aughakinnigh. It is a green field too. There is a number of rough stones slanting and a big broad stone on top which is roughly chiselled but now all grown over with moss. No one would dare leave a hand on the moss for the old people say it is not right to have dip nor dab to do with it. "Let the dead rest" and never disturb their sleep" is a common saying.
This giant fell out with a giant that lived over fornent (opposite) him on Benaghlin mountain. He lifted a big coin of a stone the breadth of a wide table and flung it at him over on Ben mountain. He missed him, but the big stone is still to be seen on the mountain, and it covers the grave of some English warrior who was killed in battle. There is writing on it, but you could not read it as it is covered with moss.
Near this very place was a big battle fought between the McGovern clan of Glengavlin and the McGuires of Fermanagh. Poor Malachi McGovern was killed and thats the pity because if he had won, all down by Benaghlin would be in the Free State now.
