  1. On the thirteenth of each month people consider it unlucky to marry or do any dealing or setting. On Whit Sunday it is considered unlucky to go near the river or go fishing and it is said that anybody that disregards this custom will be drowned or something unlucky will befall him. Or if anybody, gets a cut, it is said that the cut will not heal until the following Whitsun. If the cuckoo is seen on a tree without leaves on an Autumn day, it is considered unlucky because there would be no grain the farmers always go by this omen.
