  1. There is a Fairy Fort on a hill about two hundred yards from Mr Gallen's house in Aughrim. It is a large fort and you can see a long distance from the top.
    It is surrounded by a high mound of earth which the local people believed was placed there for the protection of people and animals in the days when this country was infested with wild animals who roamed the country in search of food at night.
