    As I went a - walking
    One evening in June,
    When the fields they were green
    And the meadows in bloom,
    I met a sweet maiden
    Most charming and fair,
    I asked her in person -
    Young Ellen Maguire.
    I stepped it up to her
    And this I did say -
    "Your modest appearance
    Has led me astray,
    For you and blind Cupid
    Have my heart in a snare
