  1. There are three forges in this district, one at Bawnboy, one at Denacrieve, and one at Cronera. In the forge at Bawnboy the people are smiths for two centuries.
The forges are generally built along the roadside near a river or a stream. The forge is a big house built of stone, and roofed with slates.
The fire place is an open hearth with the bellows at the back to keep the fire burning bright.
The tools in the forge are tongs, a sledge, a hammer, an anvil, a rasp, a hoof parer, a nippers, a cutter, a cresser, a punch and a vice.
The smith shoes asses, horses, mules, and jennets, and also shoes wheels of carts and barrows. He repairs ploughs, harrows, laidhe irons, spades, picks, and all farm implements.
