  1. Potatoes are grown on every farm in this locality
    Farmers plant about an acre of potatoes every year. The ground is manured before the potatoes are planted. First the ground is cut in ridges, sometimes with a '' lá i?e '' and sometimes with a plough. Then the manure is spread on the ridges. The space for the ridges is about four feet in width, and about two feet of this is covered with manure. The sods are dug and turned on the manure, and the centre is filled with clay from the furrow. The potatoes are cur before planting. The eyes are cut out of the potatoes, because it is only out of them a growth comes. They are then set with a
