  1. The old people have stories about the great Famine of 1846-47. Government relief reached the district. There was a boiler put up in Corlough. Two men were in charge if it. Every morning, the poor people who had no food went to these two men, and gave them a card, with the number of people that was in their house written on it. Then they got stirabout in a basin. Women from this district often walked to Ballyconnell mill to get 4 sts. of oaten meal, and they carried it home on their back. There was a a man called '' Willy Span, '' who took Fever in he famine time, and the people built a shed for him in the townland of
