  1. St. Mogue is the patron Saint of this district. He was born on an island in Templport Lough. A story is told that on the night of his birth a holy man came to the shore of the lake, and shouted over to the mother to send the child across to him that she had no boat, that the men were out fishing. The man told her to go down to the shore of the lake and she would find a stone there, and send the child across on it. She did as she was told and when she went there, there was a stone.
    She sent the child across on it, and the man baptised him and christened him Mogue.
    That stone was used for a long time afterwards for bringing coffins over to the
