  1. There used to be a great many changelings around here according to the old stories.
    The fairies brought the child away and left an infant shape in its place.
    This thing never grew or developed and after a few years it '' died ''.
    The changeling was generally weak and somewhat deformed and always there had been a perfect baby before the child was stolen.
    I haven't heard of any case where a baby was brought thus for the last 30 years.
    About here they didn't seem to know any effective way of getting the real child back.
    Stories of getting the real child back, came from stories that were read.
    It was regarded as risky leaving a baby asleep out of doors, especially near a fort.
    It was old people who told us the stories of the changelings.
    They told it in a matter-of-fact
