  1. Long ago people grew a lot of corn, wheat and potatoes.
    They got their wheat and corn ground in the mill. The wheat was ground into flour, and the oats into meal.
    Potato-cake, Boxty-bread and Oaten-cakes were the different kinds of bread used long ago. When people make potato-cake, they boil the potatoes first, then they peel them and bruise them.
    They roll some paste and mix the potatoes with it, then they flatten it, and put it in an oven to bake.
    The people usually made a number of oaten cakes at a time. They got some
