  1. Some travelling folk still come to my home. They are very poor and often seem to be hungry, and are sometimes dressed in ragged clothes. Different parties have been travelling round here. Some of them travel in caravans drawn by horses, and spend the night along the roadside, in their caravans. Others travel in carts, drawn by horses or mules. These erect little tents made of sacks, on the roadside and sleep in them.
    They make their fires of stick, which they gather in the fields and along the roads, and light them under the hedges.
    They boil water, and cook some food on these wayside fires. They usually get bread, tea, bacon, flour, eggs, potatoes or
