  1. There are more marriages before Lent that at any other time of the year. #
    A good many take place on Shrove Tuesday, and On Easter Monday. May is supposed to be an unlucky month to be married in, and Friday is considered an unlucky day. The 13th of the month is also thought to be unlucky.
    There are not many matches made in this district now. The bride is usually given a fortune, by her father.
    Sometimes a wedding feast is held in the bride's father's house, and most of the friends and neighbours are invited to it. "Strawboys" often visit the house at night, they are so called because they dress in straw. If they can
