  1. There was once a very wise dog that was a great favourite with his master. He used to always sleep at the bottom of his bed. One day his master was called away, and another man came in his place. This man slept in the same bed as the dog's master. That night, when the man was asleep, he was wakened suddenly by a shuffling at his feet, when he saw the dog he was sure it was a lion. He jumped out of bed roaring and shouting round the house. Just at that time there was another man going to bed, when he heard the shouting he thought the house was on fire, he ran down quickly just in time to see what was the cause of all the fuss.
