  1. Once upon a time there came home from America to Ireland a man who was never in Ireland before. A man named Paddy Smith was in the house to which the 'yank' came. So Paddy and he were talking about America and Ireland. The yank was boasting of his country and saying how warm the climate was. So Paddy said that it was so warm in Ireland that the people had to give the hens ice-cream to keep them from laying boiled eggs.
