  1. Wicklow got its Irish name Cille Manntáin from Saint Mantan a disciple of Saint Patricks.
    At the eastern extremity of the town stands the Black Castle.
    The Normans erected their first fortress here. It was a stronghold for the Normans.
    Between the Railway Station and the town of Wicklow, there are the remains of a Franciscan Friary, this was founded in the thirteenth century.
    Gallow's Lane in Wicklow is very ancient. It got the name Gallows because people were hanged there in the troublesome times, it branches off the old coach road, at this Cross
