  1. There were salt pans in Wicklow, about fifty years ago. They were on the quay, the pans were placed on top of the lime kilns as there were a lot of lime kilns in Wicklow then, and when the pans were very hot, they pumped in water from the sea with a pump into the pans and let stay there for a while and then the water was drained off and then they had the salt in the bottom and when it was very hard it was put in the stores.
    There was not any salt imported then and this kind of salt was used in Wicklow. Some of the kilns which were used then and continued in use until a few years ago.
