  1. Local Cures
My aunt, Miss Katie Byrne (her age is 40 years) Brittas Bay, Wicklow gave me the following information
A cure for whooping cough is the milk a ferret leaves after eating
Another for the same ailment is to pit a child in between an asss legs and over its back three times making the sign of the cross each time
The cure for boils in the district is generally soap and sugar. The sugar is ground fine, mixed with a small piece of soap ad then applied to the boil
The skin disease called shingles is cured by the blood of a chicken. The chicken is cut in two and the blood is let drop on the part affected
Another cure for the shingles is to bleed a vein in the neck of a black cat and let it drop on the skin
The cure for warts is to rub fat
