Near Ashwood there is a hill called the Gallows-hill. We are told that in the year 1798, a man named Peter Hempenstall strangled people there by putting a rope around their necks and pulling them along till they died.
On Arklow Rock a deer jumped from the top on to a stone. The place is called the Deer's Leap.
