- The nearest battle was at Ballyrahan. There were three men shot at Wicklow Gap. There were one hundred yeomen killed at Ballyellis wall and they were all buried in a heap.Every 12th July people from Carnew came to decorate the grave with orange lilies. There was a woman living nearby named Hannah Johns. The woman had a sow and one day the sow ate the decorations of the grave.Afterwards when people wanted to describe a person who was a supported of the Crown, they would say " He is bursting with loyalty like Hannah John's sow".
