- Thorpe's were well known people who kept a forge in Coolboy. They made jacks, billhooks and nails. It is said the the jacks they made were often used for hay-knives. Two men worked in the forge. Their names were Tom and Charley and a woman named Betty. Some of their billhooks are still to be found. Mr. P. Doyle has a stable where Thorpe's forge once stoof. There is a billhook in our house since Mr. Quaile lived there.
