  1. Poets were numerous in some districts in olden times. A Poet by the name of Mr Thomas Kelly composed the following song called "Pepper Hill Auction".
    1st verse
    Come all you great neighbours and listen a while,
    This comical ditty will cause you to smile.
    It's of a great auction and you quickly will hear,
    The bills that were published in this very year.
    2nd verse
    Near the town of Rathdangan this poor man did dwell,
    John Byrne the Captain you all knew him well.
    His name I have told you and he had his abode,
    In Pepper Hill by the side of the road.
    3rd verse
    Patrolling one day the peelers did go,
    Kennedy, Cunningham, Eagers and Rowe.
