  1. Bread was made from wheat. Flour was & is made in Rathdrum & Aughrim Querns[?] were used in the houses long ago. There are some of them in St Kevin's Kitchen in Glendalough.
Potato Cakes were made & boxty bread was made.
There was enough bread made always for a week. It was wet with water. Sometimes there was a shamrock mark made on cake. The bread was made in pot ovens. Sometimes made on a griddle in front of the fire.
