  1. The famine was caused in Ireland by the failure of the potato crop. The people used live on potatoes & then from hunger in 1846 & 1947 they died in Great numbers in the fields on roads & in houses & a great number were left without being buried & this caused a plague which took several thousands.
    Others went away in ship loads to other lands.
