Long ago in this district bread was made with wheat and oats. The wheat and oats were ground locally, there were two mills, one in Laragh and the other in Annamoe.

The people also used to make potato cakes, they made the potato cakes with potatoes, flour and salt, and they baked them on red coals on the heart stone.
The people also made bread called Barm Bread, flour and potatoes were mixed together with water and put in a croak beside the fire for about a week, then there is more water added, and
