  1. I
Spring once said to the Nightingale.
I mean to give you birdies a ball.
Pray Mamma said the birdies all
    Cuckoos, Sparrows Corncrakes and all
    II
The first came in was the old Cuckoo
She was after flying straight from Killaloe
She said "Im hoarse and wont sing for you
And did not wait for the Birdies Ball
    III
The Snipe flew in from Shraughmore hill
And danced about with a very long bill
She said I want to make my will
And she died that night at the Birdies Ball.
