Mrs P Lawlor of 84 yrs, Carrigacurra, Valleymount, Blessington Co Wicklow.

About 35 years ago a woman by the name of Nell Caddle used to make candles. She lived in Loxtown.
She used to get big fat rushes and peel them. She used to leave a strip of sking on the back of the rush.
When this was done they would hang up in the Chimney to dry.
When they were dry she would put down a pan of grease and dip the rushes one by one till they were all done.
She would put them in a crock for holding rush candles.
At night they would light their candles and start to spin wool.
