  1. Some years ago my father and another man, named Johnny Murphy, were fencing a ditch near our house. About four o'clock it began to rain. Then thunder and lightning came. My daddy came home, but Johnny Murphy got under a tree.
    After some time the rain became too heavy, he went to go home, and he was only about ten yards from the tree, when the lightning struck the top of the tree and split it from the top to the bottom.
