  1. When my grandfather was going to school the schools were different from what they are now.
    Before my father was born, the children had to go to school to a house. There was an old school near Dunlavin, and a teacher by the name of Patrick Burke taught there.
    All the boys and girls went to that house each night and each brought a sod of turf with him. They learned English, Latin, and Writing. They had to write on a smooth stone. The
