  1. In the time when the Yeomen caught any Catholic teaching school, they either put them to death or got them transported for life.
    There were five pound paid to any one who would give any information on a school teacher.
    In Roscommon, five miles south of the city, was a hedge-school.
    Every scholar had to bring a sod of turf to make a fire in the winter, and sometimes a penny to help to support the teacher.
