  1. Where the present family of Byrnes live in Castleruddery, long ago a man named Plant lived. He was commonly known as the "Grocer" Plant. He kept a public house and a very large bakery. Very often, when the young men were going to Mass, they would go in to drink, and very often, got drunk and missed Mass.
    One day, Father Hyland went to Plant, and asked him to stop selling drink during Mass time. But he said "I'm Jack Blunt and I can do what I like". The Priest said nothing. Mrs Plant ran out and went down
