  1. Once upon a time there was a women living in some county, I don't know the name of it. But however every night she was kept awake by a Corn-Crake crying in her garden, and this went on for a good many nights. At last she said that she would not stand it any longer, and she went to see the guards about it and ask them to come that night at 10' o'clock and take a Corn-Crake out of her garden, that was keeping her awake everynight. The guard said that he would be on duty at that time, but he said to her then. "Do you see that small police man standing up there
