  1. There is a "Fairy Fort" up in the Paddock on the land of Mr Patrick Byrne, The Paddock, Kilpedder. It is said there is sort of stones and a little ditch around it. One time it is said some man cut down a little Haw thorn which was growing in the middle of the Fort, and as soon as he cut it a wind came and took it up in the air, and he looked after it and could see nothing, but a swarm of birds flying, and, crying over his head, and he ran away he got such a fright. But the White haw-thorn never came back again.
    Since then every one believes it must have been the fairy folks doings by sending the tree into the air. So no one ever interfered with the fort since then. No
