The road beside the school is called the Mountain road. It leads from Bunclody to Borris and Myshall. It was made a long time before the Famine. This road formerly went around by the Chase and through Clonmullen. It crossed the existing road and it went around by Deacon's of New Deer Park. It went on by the hill ditch and passed along under Howell's. It went up by the school and crossing Howell's land to the Park Hill and going along by the hill ditch under Goort wood and passing by Plunketts of Kilbranish and turning to the left and coming out again on the present road at Caroll's cross where one road turns for Myshall and the other for Borris. In most of these places the site of the old road is to be seen. Some roads were made during the Famine period for relief work for the people.
