  1. The Potato Crop.
    In the olden times in order to sow potatoes the ground was dug up with a spade. After this ridges were made about a foot wide, and into them was put manure. A pointed stick then had to be procured with a bit of steel on the top of it called a "steeveen", and with this, holes were made in the ground and the potato seed dropped in. They were then covered up with clay.

  2. Weather Signs.
    If the dog grazes the next day will be wet.
    A circle around the moon is a sign that the following day will be wet.
    If the swallows fly low we shall have a storm.
    If the cat sits with her back to the fire, rain will fall next day.
    When the spider spins at night the following day will be fine.
