  1. Long ago the Irish people had to be taught by means of hedge-schools. The most noted hedge-school in this district was in Connaberry.
    In those schools they learned how to read and write and do arithmetic, some of the best writers came from those hedge-schools.
    How they used to manage in these hedge-schools, sometimes, was, the Teacher use to go from one farmers house to the other and teach the farmer's children, and the poor children used to go to those houses and that was how they got any education.
