  1. Long ago the corn was sowed in ridges and cut with a reaping hook, and threshed with a Flail.
    The Flail consisted of a hand-staff and a Boulkin. In later years a Scythe was procured, and the trenches were reaped with a hook, and threshed with horse-power and cleaned with a winnowing machine. All this was done in the barn.
    In damp soil, the potatoes were down in ridges with a dibben and in dry land, they were sown in the drill as usual.
