1. The Big Wind.
On the 6th of January 1839 there was a storm in Ireland called "The Big Wind." That winter had been a remarkably mild one. Between Christmas & the 12th Day the weather broke & about nine o' clock the wind began to blow & in an hour was a raging roaring gale that did wholesale damage.
