- (continued from previous page)the thatch. The fireplace was made of two large granite stones about 3 feet wide with a grate in the centre. Turf and sticks were principally used in olden times.
- Many years ago the houses were made of clay, and most of them were thatched. Some people had a bed in the kitchen. This was covered in the day time. The fire was usually in the middle of the floor. There was a hole in the middle of the floor with iron around it.
