  2. There was an old woman, named Mrs. Nolan, who lived in Johnstown. she had a quern, and used to grind what flour would do her for a week. She then made cakes on Monday to last for the week

  3. In this district bread was made from wheat. Long ago, people sowed some wheat, and ground it themselves in querns and made wheaten flour. When they were making the bread, they put the sign of the cross on it to make it rise. Bread was not made every day, but enough for a week was made, at a time
