    populated before that time. There were many old houses around this district. Off the Burtonhall estate is a place called Kennel Lane, but now only bits of the walls of the houses are to be seen.

  2. In the time of the famine the people had no food, but potatoes. In the year 1847 a blight came on the potatoes, and the people starved, because they had no food. They sowed the potatoes then by spreading them on the ground, and covering them over with clay.
