  1. Birds, such as the swallow, and the robin are very common to most Irish people. During the cold winter months, the swallow migrates or leaves the country. We find the nest of the robin in some ditch or some bank. Its nest is very cosy, and warm. The nest is made of hair, and moss woven together. The swallow builds its nest under the eaves of houses. Its nest consists of straw, and, hay, lined with mud. It lays about four or five eggs of a bluish colour. There are seveal sayings about robbing bird's nests. It is said that if a swallow's nest is robbed that cows will milk blood. It is said that if swallows fly low it is going to rain. If they fly hight it is going to be fine. It is supposed that the robin touched our Savour whilst he was on the Cross, and so it has a red breast ever since.
