  1. A Night Prayer
As I lay on my bed to sleep,
I pray to God my soul to keep,
And if I die before I wake,
I pray to God my soul to take,
    Matthew, Mark, Luke and John,
God bless the bed that I lay on.
    Night Prayer
Twas on good Friday our saviour died,
The Jews came down with spear and scythe,
They pierced his tender heart, they pierced his tender sides,
Whoever says these words, three times every day and three times by night
Shall never die in mortal sin,
Shall never enter the gates of hell.
