  1. There are two ruined castles: one in, Ballymoon, and the other in Ballyloughan. There was an underground passage from one to the other, and the people say that there is a golden gate in the middle of the passage. They are in the parish of Bageranlstown. It is in Co. Carlow, and in the barony of Idrone EAst. It is derelict for many years. There is an old ruined church in Cloonagoose: it was burned by the English soldiers. There is an old tower in Currane and there are two doors near the top of it. It was used as a water tower in olden times. There are many tower houses in the district. There is a dungeon in Ballyloughan castle. Ballymoon and Ballyloughan were shelled from Leighlin Hell.
