  1. After the siege of Wexford, Cromwell and his bloodthirsty army passed through a gap in Blackstairs and ever since this gap is known as Crumlin Gap. On that night they rested in a grove in Ballynattin and it is thought that on a dark windy night their ghosts haunt the grove. Passers-by have declared that they heard the drunken voices of the psalm singing hypocrites. Next morning the Round-heads passed up thro' Borris & on thro' Ballytiglea.
During the Famine years when the soupers were busy, a poor farmer from the district decided to send his children to Lady Harriet's school in Marley so that they would be fed and clothed. Before doing so however, he paid a visit to the Chapel and said "Good-bye God Almighty till the potatoes grow again".
