  1. In the year of 1887 there lived in Spahill, Borris, Co Carlow, a man named Hugh O'Neill. One night two neighbouring men name John Kealy Scorthreen, and Sonny Kealy viaducts Borris, went in to ramble. When Hugh got them in he shut the door and locked it.
He had a number of dogs on the floor and after some time the dogs began to play music, and many red coat men came out of the corner and began to dance till the floor was full of them.
The same Hugh had a book and if you gave him a leaf or a piece of straw he could turn it into a coin of any kind except a two shilling piece, because it had a cross on it.
