Situated in South Co Carlow in a small, unknown but beautiful valley, completely surrounded by the Blackstairs Mountains, with Mount Leinster dominating the whole mostly bog land yet this area has given a livelihood to a big population, much greater than at present, for everywhere, and more especially on the "Old Knockroe Road" are evidences that many houses stood not many years ago.
    This area comprising the townlands of :-

    Rathanna - Rath Fanaighe- the Rath in the Bog

    Rosdillig-Ros Dlighe-the Wood of the Law

    Cranagh-Crannach-a small wood

    Knockroe-Cnoc Ruadh-the Red Mountain

    Raheen-Raithín-the little rath

    Killedmond-Cill Éamoinn-St. Edmund Church

    Moyvalley-Magh Baile-the House of the Plain

    Tomduff-Tom Dubh-the Black Knoll

    Knocksquire-Cnoc Scur-
    Coshel-Caiseal-the Castle
    is intersected by a network of narrow ill-kept roads or lanes, sometimes as the branches of the trees meet above forming leafy lanes through which the sun glints in summer, but cannot penetrate to uncomfortably affect the strolling native.
