  2. On Shrove Tuesday pancakes are made and people throw them up to stick them to the ceiling. Shrove Tuesday is also called Pancake Tuesday. On Ash Wednesday ashes are blest by the priest and put on the people's forehead. The ashes are got from the palm that is left over from the previous Palm Sunday. In olden times people were not allowed to use milk on their tea. This was called black fast.
